Issued in the early 1960s, this stamp was released in support of the global campaign against malaria led by the World Health Organization (WHO). During this period, many countries and territories participated in international efforts to control and eradicate malaria, a disease that posed a major public health challenge across large parts of Africa, Asia, and other tropical regions. The campaign focused on prevention, education, vector control, and improved access to medical treatment. By issuing this commemorative stamp, the French Somali Coast (Côte Française des Somalis) demonstrated its support for international health initiatives and the fight against infectious diseases. The issue highlighted the importance of cooperation between nations and health organizations in improving public health, reducing the burden of malaria, and promoting better living conditions for populations at risk.
