The Triangular Camel - 1franc
This iconic 1894 issue is renowned for its unique equilateral triangular shape, a distinctive departure from standard rectangular designs. The central illustration depicts a méhariste (camel cavalryman) riding through the desert, capturing the arid landscape of the Horn of Africa. While originally part of the Obock series, this specific specimen bears a blue "DJIBOUTI" overprint along the bottom edge. This overprint reflects the administrative transition of the era, as existing Obock stock was repurposed for use in the new capital of Djibouti, making it a favorite for collectors of French colonial "provisional" markings.
